Well to be honest not everyone is creatively equal is why.
So you have a great idea for your business branding, but do you have the skills and equipment to turn those ideas into a logo that can be used for your emails, printing, embroidering, signage, billboards, promotional items, stationery, etc. You get the picture, all the stuff you want to use to advertise and to get the word out about your business. All these applications require different specifications to produce a professional end product for you.
Do you have time to research your competitors, study colors and their meanings? Do you want a polished and professional look to your branding and your marketing collateral, or do you want to throw something together in Word and pass it off as a logo? Be very careful with this option, copyright issues and all. And then there are those who will actually download a watermarked image from the web and use that because they are too cheap to pay for their own unique logo. I swear I have seen people do this more than once, and yeah they were kind of squeaky! I don't think I would want to do business with that type of person. While they may be thrifty, they're still cheap, and they're breaking the law in using a copyrighted image without a license.
What it boils down to is how you want to be perceived. If you want people to get to know, like and trust you and your business, you need to do it right. A professionally designed logo is an investment and it says a lot about your character. So are you cheap or professional and trustworthy?
